Farming and Gardening for Health and Disease by Sir Albert Howard Paperback
A truly inspirational read.
Sir Albert Howard’s Farming and Gardening for Health or Disease is based on observations of traditional farming methods in south Asia. Sent from Britain to work as an agricultural advisor to teach the locals how to farm, Howard quickly discovered that they had much more to teach him, and particularly noted the connection between healthy soil and the villages’ healthy populations, livestock and crop. The ideas and holistic principles he articulated inspired the founders of the Soil Association.
The Author: Sir Albert Howard is often referred to as the father of modern organic agriculture. He has also been called the father of modern composting, for his refinement of a traditional Indian composting system into what is now known as the Indore method. He went on to document and develop organic farming techniques, and spread his knowledge through the UK-based Soil Association, and the Rodale Institute in the US.
