Thoughts on Feeding by Lionel Picton
A fascinating read.
Lionel Picton’s Thoughts on Feeding, first published in 1946, is a ground-breaking work which linked diet, health and the way in which food is produced. His subject is just as relevant today, in a society where mass-produced, highly processed foods have become dominant and obesity has reached epidemic proportions. In his book, Picton summed up half a century of medical experience, and linked Sir Albert Howard’s work on crop breeding and Sir Robert McCarrison’s studies in nutrition.
The Author: Dr Sir Lionel Picton was a Cheshire doctor. The work of Howard, Picton and McCarrison encouraged Eve Balfour to expand the ideas in The Medical Testament (a document urging investigation of the relationship between compost-grown food and human health) in The Living Soil.
