Because the plant is not ‘self-fertile’ it is best to plant in bunches

Fruits ripen to black after 2 years. Fruits/Cones can be used for seasoning food, famously good with game dishes. Very useful in aiding digestion
Also used for flavouring gin, medicinal purposes as a tonic and nerve stimulant.
Can be roasted, then ground for a coffee substitute, making beer and good jam.

Juniper berries are widely used to help prevent and cure kidney complaints.
Is used to help treat dandruff, athlete’s foot, psoriasis, eczema
Makes very good incense.

Juniper in the UK is becoming rare, mainly due to its ideal habitat of marginal grassland being used for intensive monoculture farming methods. More planting of this beautiful, fragrant tree is necessary.
