Evergreen

Grows anywhere, but slowly. Good hedging. Dioecious (Male and Female). Flowers April. Fruit ripens in September.

Red fruit is deliciously sweet if picked when ripe ONLY if poisonous seeds are removed. All other parts of tree are poisonous.
Berries are used in the preparation of traditional Christmas pudding
Work carries on with its medicinal uses in Cancer research. E.G. a drug derived from the yew tree Taxol.

Yew has been used to help with rheumatism.
Excellent wood for furniture making, traditionally used for longbows.
Can live 5000+ years.
Food plant of the Willow Beauty moth. Leaves can be used as an insecticide.
